For over 30 years, Dr. Winters has been providing exceptional surgical outcomes for his patients. With a focus on adult orthopaedics, specifically sports medicine and reconstructive surgery which includes total joint replacement.
After graduating Brown University, Dr. Winters received his Doctorate from University of Connecticut is 1980. He completed his internship in internal medicine at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, followed by a year of general surgery at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut. His orthopaedic residency was at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, Connecticut. He then completed an A.O. Fellowship in Trauma Hannover, West Germany, followed by Fellowships in Sports Medicine and Adult Reconstructive Surgery at the Brigham and Women's Hospital of Harvard Medical School. There, he served as Assistant Team Physician for the Department of Athletics of Harvard University.
Dr. Winters maintains an active interest in research. He has published articles in a number of journals and completed research at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
He is currently a designated consultant for Major League Baseball, Inc. and works closely with area colleges and high school athletes.
Dr. Winters is one of the few Orthopaedic Surgeons in this area that will perform both total knee anthroplasties at the same time. Most surgeons will only do one at a time, effectively doubling the recovery time necessary to get back to your routine activity level.
He has received seven United States patents for the design of rotational components for total knee replacements, and for meniscal cartilage repair following injuries.
James Ryan, MD, is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a member of both the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Florida Orthopedic Society.
After receiving his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine, Dr. Ryan completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in orthopedic and rehabilitative surgery at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center.
Dr. Ryan received his fellowship training in arthroscopy and knee reconstruction surgery at Medical Arts Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Ryan has been in private practice since January 1984. He is married and has four children and 12 grandchildren.
